Leadership Training
Teaching Notes:
Supplemental Materials By Session:
Session 1: Why Evangelize?
Session 2: God's Part in Evangelism - and Ours
Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God by J. I. Packer
The Gospel and Personal Evangelism by Mark Dever
Session 3: Being a Christianity Explored Leader
Session 4: Before the Course
Immerse yourself in the Gospel of Mark! Go here for expositional messages through the book of Mark. Consider investing in an mp3 player (some are very inexpensive) and play them while you work out or while driving (an FM transmitter for your mp3 player can also be very inexpensive--hear the messages through the car radio).
Pray.
Session 5: During the Course
Session 6: Explore, Explain, Encourage
In addition to Mathias Media's Two Ways to Live narrative presentation of the gospel, I offer up a propositional truth presentation of the gospel: The Objective Gospel.
Narrative (story telling) is very popular and useful in our post-modern culture. My one critique of Two Ways to Live is that it is shy about using important biblical terms like sin, judgment, and hell. I believe they may have crossed the line between gentleness and soft-pedaling.
Propositional truth is unpopular in the post-modern culture on the public level, but privately it is as strongly held as ever. This dissonanse (professing to believe one thing while living something else) can be gently exposed and bring down walls. For more information, please refer to the Ambassador's course and the resources recommended within it.
Become acquinted with each approach.
Session 7: Identity, Mission, Call
Immerse yourself in the gospel of Mark! See the Session 4 recommendations.
Identity: Who is Jesus? (who isn't he? ... Lord, Liar, Lunatic?)
Mission: Why did He come? (what are some misconceptions? ... life enhancement guru?)
Call: So what? (might people be missing out on some comfort and happiness? more than that?)
Session 8: After the Course
Session 9: Getting Your Expectations Right
Finally, a course blog is available for anyone interested. You may submit questions, comments, challanges, etc. You may remain anonymous if you desire. Anyone is welcome to use these materials and/or join in the discussion on the blog.
Disclaimer
You will, no doubt, find things you disagree with on this site. Keep in mind our goal is not to offend, but to inform. Rather than discussing personalities, we seek to discuss and defend Christian doctrine, issues, lifestyle, and worldview from a distinctively Reformed perspective. If you believe we have crossed that line, please let us know and we'll consider revising.
If you have questions, comments, or concerns you may email me at Tim @ objectivegospel.org (no spaces).
